I saw it on the 8th Gen Civic forum, it’s a boot and shifter put on the automatic.
To be honest, I want to do it for the aesthetic because it looks good, and i want some change.(The stock is also extremely hard to clean). It’s also an extremely cheap DYI.
But I don’t want to because well... It’s an automatic and it looks like im pretending to have a manual. It looks so rice/poser, espeically when they see my missing third pedal. I wish people didn’t care about automatic/manual so much sometimes...
So I’m really just restricted by what others think.

As long as it’s done well, I don’t think most will mind. It looks quite nice.
I can’t find the image but there was one person who put a shift boot on his auto Altima…
The boot peeled upwards to expose the lettering and you could really tell then.

If I did it’s it is indistinguishable from a manual civic because the shifter is about the same thing.
The only way to spot it would be the missing third pedal and the way automatics shift. (my car is a bit loud so people think it’s manual anyways)

Reminds me of the shifter on the AT Toyobaru:

God I HATE that stupid thing on the toyoburu. I still fall for it sometimes when looking around for one, a moment of excitement, then pure disappointment.

At least the Civics after 2000 don’t have a button like any other automatics of yesteryear, right?
Right?

What happens with the shifter lock out button?

Eh, go ahead and do it if that’s what you want. Aesthetically, it looks nice, you still know what gear you’re in via the dash, and maybe it’s more comfortable than the stock shifter. I know people do this over on the VW side of things as well, so it’s not like any marque’s fanbase is exempt from wanting the styling of the manual. Little things like a shifter swap can make a big difference in car comfort and sense of making the vehicle yours.

I’m sure the guy puts it in Neutral at stop lights so he can coast backwards just a bit and REALLY throw ‘em off.

It’s hidden on the backside of the auto shifter

I was wondering that too. They say something about it in the guide.

8thcivic was great for DIYs a while back but since most of the photos have expired on photobucket they are nearly useless.
